This was such a wonderful read thank you! Right from the start, I found this quote hit home for me: “We still want to understand what we’re building. We still want to think about the design and the impact of those changes.” Thinking is the slow part and the part that adds the most value. It’s literally what has allowed us to build civilizations and art and science and technology. To disregard it will come with major costs.

Another little old code lady here and I can so relate to what you described!

My career progressed in a somewhat different order than your’s - computer graphics and programming to multimedia (K-12 educational software on Apple IIe computers and CD-ROMs - yay!), full stack web development to data viz and analytics, then into management - but that very same sensation of acceleration over time and the ever tightening circles!

I’m loving AI and being a builder again. Thank you for the trip down memory lane and anchoring that recognition of there being “human speed” and a very real need to for us take time to reflect and ground our thoughts and actions.
