Looking Back At My Writing
What a writing analysis showed me about my own voice

I was curious what it would say about my writing.
The part that interested me most was how on point it was.
My archetype is “The Steady Elder.”
I suppose I can no longer deny that I’m an elder, based on the last tally of years.
I’ve written before that I’m not here to tell you how to do things.
I share how I do things.
I also share how it feels.
Working in an industry focused on logic and order, feelings tend to get pushed to the back.
But feelings make us who we are.
They drive what we do, even when we want to deny that.
The analysis called that out.
In a clear the way it described how I write.
That I show the feeling before I explain it.
That I let the reader arrive at their own conclusions.
That I don’t try to close things neatly.
That part felt right.
Because it’s how I think.
There was a line it pulled out as a “signature.”
“I know this is the stages of grief talking. I can see it for what it is.”
Names the feeling.
Then steps outside it.
My writing looks like me.
No grand conclusions.
No telling the reader what to think.
I trust the reader to follow.
Or not.
Just like the tin man, technology has a heart.
And I try to wear mine on my sleeve.
